Body piercing

The piercing of a part of the human body for the purpose of wearing jewelry in the opening created.

Body Jewelry

Any number of kinds of adornments worn through a piercing includeing barbells, rings, twists, spirals, hooks, weights, and many other designs. Body jewelry can be made out of virtually any solid or amorphous solid material under the sun. Body jewelry is available in acrylic, bone, gold, hematite, glass, quartz, niobium, silicone, stainless steel, stone, teflon, titanium, water buffalo horn, and wood.

Use of Captive Bead Rings

A ring used in body piercing where the bead is held in place solely by the spring pressure of the metal. Probably the most common jewelry used in piercings.

Use of Barbells

The barbell is one of the most commonly used pieces of body jewelry. The barbell consists of a central shaft with a bead on each end. These beads screw on with either internal threading or external threading.

Barbells are available curved; usually about a quarter of a full circle in form. This form of body jewelry is most commonly used for navel piercings and eyebrow piercings, as well as vertical hood piercings, PA piercings, and others. Curved barbells are not appropriate for surface piercings as this will lead to rejection.

Another common variation is a circular barbell. This is a barbell bent fully into the shape of a ring, with one or both ends threaded to accept a bead.

Tattooing

A process by which a pigment is permanently implanted under the skin by piercing the epidermis and depositing the ink into the dermis.

Scarification

The creative and artistic application of scars in a controlled manner to achieve an aesthetically or spiritually pleasing result.
